Today we start the progresssion in 1961 with a singer who had 24 hits in the 1960’s without ever having a number 1. He spent 332 weeks in the UK Charts. Born in 1940 he died in 1983.
Our next star is an American, coincidentally born in the same year as Billy Fury but this it is from 1968. In the States he had 16 top 40 hits, four in the Top 10 but in the UK he did better with 22 Top 40 hits with 11 in the Top 10.
This Group wasn’t short of hits from 1964 Onwards but I’ve chosen to go from 1970. Lead vocals Justin Hayward it’s just a fantastic song. I would imagine there’s no-one in the World not heard of Nights in White Satin by them except some Mongolian tribesmen, so you know what to expect. They’re still performing today and just as good.
1974 next. This is one of my favourite groups. They lost their lead singer to a new formed group in the US but he’d started the group with his replacement so there was no gap. So the group had hits throughout the 60’s and I liked most of them but this is a stand out record for me. Like The Moodies and The Stones, the Hollies are still performing.
We leap forward to 1986 for this last one. For me, this man was arguably one of the best singers of his day. He could cope with Elon John songs as easily as Freddie Mercury songs and of course his own catalogue spans changes of style so holds a lot of variety. This is a favourite song of his for me.
Have a glorious new week. Where it’s safe don’t forget to Hug. The world needs it. My Hugs to you all.
